Four-minute films that make you laugh, cry, and think

Animated short film still.

What can you do in four minutes? If you’re an emergent filmmaker, it turns out you can do a lot. The Libraries is proud to host the 8th Annual Student Short Film Showcase again this year as talented NC State student filmmakers screen their best short films on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt Library Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, and the student filmmakers will be in attendance.

All films are under four minutes and range from films to video productions to animations. The range of form and subject matter makes this screening a must-see. Justice Dunne combines several different types of animation in “How to Train Your Secret Weapon,” a hilarious cautionary tale about a government project gone wrong. Jennifer Sotoamaya’s computer animation work takes the form of a film trailer for a mischievous pug savaging a laboratory. Christina Dietz’ plaintive “Memory” is a live-action vignette about loss and regret, while Chris Dibbern’s “Pieces” parodies bro culture through the lens of a hangover.

This program is a collaboration between the NCSU Libraries, the Department of Communication and the Department of Art + Design.
